Greenwich is the only club in New York to run its very own pickup! These sessions are co-ed, fun, informal and a great way to meet other club members. There are no prerequisites for the level of skill or experience and everyone is welcome. We have some players playing for the first time, some that have returned to the sport after a number of years out and then many that have played for years at school, college, university and club level.
Typical sessions involve a few teams of between 6 and 7 players playing in a round-robin fashion. We usually play 8-minute games and then rotate teams. All you need to bring are red and white shirts, an outdoor stick (we have plenty of spares if you need to borrow) and then we always encourage wearing shin pads and a mouth guard even though these are optional. After the session we usually head to our club’s favorite bar, Barrows, which is just around the corner.

The NEFHA (link NEFHA website) pickup session is a great way to keep fit, play on a great surface and meet members from across the various league teams. Its co-ed and open to adults and students of all different skills levels. We play mixed games, either full field (11 vs 11) or half field (7 vs 7). All you need in addition to your regular hockey gear is a dark and a white shirt so we can make teams. It’s only a 25 minute subway ride from midtown Manhattan and there’s parking at the field for anyone wishing to drive.
